Approaching Flu Season

....What You Can Do

As you may know, this year there is a heightened awareness as we approach flu season. We want to keep Oglesby Public Schools functioning in a normal manner during the approaching flu season, but we need everyone's help to do that.

The Illinois State Board of Education urges people to speak with their doctor or local health department about where and when you may obtain vaccinations for your children and any other questions about seasonal flu or H1N1 influenza. Vaccinating your children is the best defense that you can give them against these two possibly serious diseases.

Here at the school, we are working with the Illinois Department of Public Health through LaSalle County Health Department, Illinois State Board of Education and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to monitor flu conditions and make decisions concerning our schools.

For now, everything is functioning normally. There are a few things you can do to help.

∼ Teach your children to wash their hands.

∼ Teach your children to cover their coughs and sneezes with tissues.

∼ Teach your children not to share personal items.

∼ Know the signs and symptoms of the flu.
         Fever
         Cough/sore throat
         Runny/stuffy nose
         Body aches
         Headache
         Feeling tired

∼ Keep sick children home 24 hours after fever is gone.

∼Do not send sick children to school!
