H1N1 Updated Information

Parents and guardians,

We are reaching that time of year where the spread of flu is a concern and recently we have had an increase of absent children with flu-like symptoms.  As a preventative means, maintenance will continue in washing and disinfecting contact areas daily.  Teachers also have hand sanitizer within their rooms and are reminding students of proper hand washing techniques.  We are also monitoring absence patterns and asking specific questions to help compile data and send it to the LaSalle County Health Department (LCHD).  We are monitoring students daily and would appreciate all help we can receive from home.

Remember to keep your child home if he/she is exhibiting flu-like symptoms and do not send your child to school until he/she has gone 24 hours fever free without use of medication.

Contact school if your child is sick and staying home.  Also, make sure that recent changes in contact numbers are given to the school in case we need to send a child home.

We will also continue to work closely with the CDC as well as the LCHD for updates and recently sent home a letter from the county with information on H1N1 flu shot clinics as well as updates on the spread of the flu.  We will continue to work with the agencies in the recommendations for the operations of school, but it is considered to be a local decision based upon whether schools can function at a regular rate.  It would take a large amount of student or staff members out with flu symptoms before we wouldn’t be able to hold school.

It is important that if you do become sick, you stay at home and limit your contact with other people as much as possible.  Students who are at high risk, medically fragile, or pregnant women are asked to seek advice of their doctors.

If we all take a proactive role, we might be able to slow down the spread of the flu this season.  Though there is nothing we can do to guarantee all children will be free of the flu, working together and keeping each other informed can help us all.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact the school or the LaSalle County Health Department.
